Nationwide Birth Control Recall

Qualitest Pharmaceuticals has issued a nationwide recall for several lots of birth control pills, due to a “packaging error”:

The recall affects these products: Cyclafem 7/7/7, Cyclafem 1/35, Emoquette, Gildess FE 1.5/30, Gildess FE 1/20, Orsythia, Previfem and Tri-Previfem.

The pills are rotated incorrectly within their packages, meaning that some birth control users might take the pills in the wrong order and become pregnant. If you take any of the above you can callĀ 1-877-300-6153 during normal business hours to get your pills replaced; you can read more information on the exact lots affected in this .pdf.

Thanks! I take one of these, checked the PDF, and my lot was affected. This is the first I’ve heard of it (I’ll be pissed at my pharmacy if they don’t call me TOMORROW). I really appreciate it. And funny thing, my hormones have seemed slightly out of wack this week, including unscheduled bleeding this week and the inability to stay chill when things are annoying or upsetting me (like right now). (The Twitterverse would tell you this is TMI). Fucking fantastic.

I especially like the part in the article where it says: “A spokesman for Qualitest Pharmaceuticals said that ‘there are no immediate health issues currently’ because of the packaging problems. Rather, he said, the chief concern is that women may unintentionally become pregnant after taking the oral contraceptive.” Guess what? Unintended pregnancy is a pretty immediate health concern for me.

What are the chances some anti-choicers call me an irresponsible slut if this pharmaceutical company’s error causes me to seek access to an abortion in my anti-choice state?

Wait, the hormone pills and the sugar pills aren’t coloured differently in the packs you get? O__________________O

Wow. You guys don’t just get 21 pills in a pack? We’re trusted to count a pill-free seven days all by ourselves. (Ireland/UK.) Hmm. I wonder if there’s any studies comparing the two.
