Friends: There comes a time, in every blog’s life, where that blog tires of singledom. It wants to settle down! Start a family! Or something! Basically, the blog wants to bring on new contributors, is what the blog wants to do, and by “the blog” I mean “Tiger Beatdown,” and by “Tiger Beatdown,” I mean me.
So, in related news, GUESS WHO TOTALLY JUST UPPED THE BAR FOR ALL OF US?
It is Silvana! Silvana, of Bitch, Ph.D and TAPPED and “holy crap, Tiger Beatdown has just exploded with comments due to this Dude Rock piece” fame! Silvana, who we love! And lo, ye shall all come to know this love of the Silvana. On Tiger Beatdown! Please enter your many warm and enthusiastic comments about this development, and also exclamations of jealousy (YOU ARE ALL SO JEALOUS) that I got her to do this with us, into the comment box below.

Best. Posse. Ever.
Damn right I’m jealous! I’d been meaning to ask Silvana if she wanted to blog at SP for a while, but I’ve been too lazy and distracted to properly maintain the blog, much less grow it. So I guess the better blog won (the contest that only existed in my head). DAMN YOU, DOYLE. But also, woohoo, Silvana! More Silvana anywhere on the internet is a good thing, but especially here.
YAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!
Um, but I am not jealous – we all win here!
Silvana, I am so excited to see more of your stellar, stellar words here.
Hooray Silvana! I’m extremely enthusiastic about the addition of her wonderful self to this, my warmly beloved Tiger Beatdown. Also: I am jealous! SO JEALOUS! that it is you that she has joined and not my own, only-a-couple-posts-having, completely-unknown blogthing. CURSE YOU, SADY*!
(*where “curse you, sady” means “You are awesome, SFD”)
Silvana! Happy to have you; your piece on dude music was brilliant. Sady, keep collecting! You gotta catch’em all!
(…And then, in this outdated Pokemon metaphor… use them to KO the evil powers of misogyny. Shut up. I’m cool.)
FUCK YEAH!
Welcome, Silvana!
Yayyyyy!

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Welcome, Silvana!
Gayle Force speaks truth: we all win.
YAY!More Silvana!
Alright Silvana!
Looking forward to reading your stuff VERY SOON!
This Silvana person is going places now. But rather than talking about her “blog posts” on Tiger Beatdown, she should just call them Tiger Beatdowns. As in, “I just did threw down and awesome TIGER BEATDOWN!”
Just one disinterested observer’s thoughts.
I actually dislike this news. I come here for Sadie, mostly, but I like most of the guest posts.
But Silvana’s? It was entertaining and well-written. What it wasn’t was supported, intelligent, and rational. It mistook personal experience for global trend. It asked us to forget our brains and pretend our emotions were more relevant to her argument.
I enjoyed reading Silvana’s guest post, I really did, but its lack of intellectualism is not what I want from a feminist blog.
@Laila: UH WHUUUUUUUT. Not only is this super-rude to post during a welcome party, I basically have no idea how your comment even got through, given that we’re working with a more strictly moderated system than usual now. (Long story short: Some spammers got through, so everything has to be moderated now, until I figure out how to block the IPs.) So, like, I’m going to fix this! By telling you to shut your face a bit! Like: Please try to act on the Internet the way you would in real life, with basic standards of politeness and such. You’re wrong, for the record, but the more important part is that you would appear to have NO FUCKING MANNERS. A shame, really: Most people aim to be both correct AND nice, or at least nice about being incorrect, but you’ve zoomed right past both and into Gratuitous Driveby Town, Population: Laila.
Am getting over my fear of sharing Silvana in order to feel awesome about this. AWESOME.
Um, hell yeah. Coming from a female musician in a band with all boys. Hell yeah.
Laila, I find that you are an unpleasant and unkind person.
Delurking to say yay! Music and music appreciation are not my strong suit, but I found that a lot of what Silvana said connected with my experiences as an academic philosopher. (I guess it’s not just music! I also loved that people started talking about poetry in the comments. Please do poetry week sometime!)
I’ve been generally impressed with the guest bloggers so far. I was kind of worried that they’d be just OK, and that I’d wind up scrolling past their posts to get more of Sady’s writing. So far, that’s not what happened at all.
@Laila So glad to hear you are a fan of Sady’s writing. I wanted to direct you to one of MY personal favorites:
http://tigerbeatdown.com/2010/04/15/meta-post-yes-i-like-the-guest-posters-better-than-you-sorry/
Silvana is a major GET for the Beatdown – finding a writer who is intelligent, funny, thoughtful, and can meet a deadline is rare. Sady is adding contributors so that she can continue to do the Beatdown AND work on her other writing duties AND have a social life.
Silvana’s two posts took her personal experiences as a female musician and used them to look at the way male privilege seeks to undermine women’s music. When you say that she “mistook personal experience for global trend” you are making yet another NOT ALL DUDES ARE LIKE THAT!!! argument. Can I tell you a super secret, insidery thing that I know about Sady? Just between us?
She fucking hates when people do that.
You all are much too kind. Except Laila. You are a jerk.
But I’ve gotten rather used to readers complaining that new bloggers are RUINING EVERYTHING ELEVENTY to much care about them at this point.
HUZZAH!
Hooray!
Happy chair dance!!!!
Why is Tiger Beatdown just the awesomest?!!!! WHY?
Yay! I loved the dude music post! Welcome to the family. *Awkward group hug time*
Awesome! Yay, Silvana! I can’t wait to read more of your work.
I enjoyed reading Silvana’s guest post, I really did, but its lack of intellectualism is not what I want from a feminist blog.
Translation: I gulped down my mug of haterade, cracked my knuckles and wrote myself a drive by snark attack in order to tell the entire world I’m pissed I was not personally asked to share my BRILLIANCE and intellectual chow chow with the world. PS: You smell like cheese!
Thank you, Liberal Arts Education for teaching me the ways of close readings of the text.
Also, YAY and welcome SILVANA!!!
This has made my day!
Woo-hoo!! 😀
Ms. Sady is developing an embarrassment of riches here at Tiger Beatdown. I refer to her contributors, not her whiners in the comments because, unlike the exciting variety added to the mix by the new contributors, the comment-whiners are oddly all the same – snottily juvenile and leadenly pompous. Why is that, I wonder?
Oh, well – yay for the newest spice in the stew. Looking forward to reading more from you, Silvana.
This is great!
I discovered your blog only recently (loving it!) and now I’m thrilled my favourite Bitch Ph.D writer will be contributing here!
so, so happy about this!
