You know, it’s funny to me that this is being used as an example of the evil evil job protections teachers have, because this is actually why everyone should have job protections = so they can’t be fired because of stupid prejudices that have nothing to do with their ability to do the job.
urgh, I’m not even willing to click on the link, can anyone sum up for me what’s going on? I’m assuming a former sex worker decided to become a teacher? And no doubt people are pissy assholes about it?
^^ Basically. Cause we all know addicts can reform themselves, violent menz can go to meetings, but a whore is an inhuman monster forever! Cause what could be worse than have Teh Sex! For money!
Oh, and it gets even more meta: she was fired for arguing (in public! using her real name!) that the political choices made by the Attorneys General v. Craigslist were the wrong choices.
So while everyone is all about the sexy sex she had for money (the Daily News says she “… wrote about using Craigslist to pick up johns…”, without mentioning _any_ of the political or social arguments she was making), it’s pretty clear that we have a teacher who is about to be fired for engaging in political speech.
Ugh. Really?? Jesus Christ. Americans are so sexually repressed/madly in love with strict gender roles I’m surprised we make it through the day.
^^ And now Christine O’ Damn-All-You-Sex-Having-Evil-Liberals wants to take away masturbation! How are we supposed to survive?
Clay: Maybe I’m dense for having to ask this, but you mean they’re going to use political speech as the excuse? That’s clearly not the actual reason for which they want to fire her…
As an aside, reading her HuffPo post, it’s kind of disappointing that she busted on Newmark. I wish she’d have shone a light on all the attorneys general who forced his hand. Craigslist is not a huge company, so the legal fees necessary to fight all the states threatening action could have become preposterous. He didn’t bend to mere criticism.
